Mumbai, April 20, 2024: Bollywood actress and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta on Friday strongly denied reports suggesting that her franchise is planning to sign Rohit Sharma as captain in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Zinta called the circulating news “completely fake and baseless,” clarifying that she has never discussed Rohit Sharma in any interview or made any such statement.

“I hold Rohit Sharma in very high regard and am a big fan of his, but I never discussed him in any interview nor made this statement,” she wrote.

“I also have a lot of respect for Shikhar Dhawan, who is currently injured. These articles are a perfect example of how misinformation is picked up without verification and circulated online.”

Preity Zinta urged the media to stop spreading misinformation:

Zinta urged media outlets to stop spreading the false reports, adding that such stories “embarrass all concerned parties.”

“We have a great team currently, and our focus is to win games and make the most of #IPL 2024,” she emphasized, tagging the official Punjab Kings handle.

Rohit Sharma is the  captain of Team India and the Mumbai Indians:

Rohit Sharma, who currently leads the Indian national team and Mumbai Indians in the IPL, was speculated to be targeted by Punjab Kings in a possible mega auction next year—a claim that Zinta has now categorically dismissed.
