Patna, September 23, 2024: Prashant Kishor, the curator of Jan Suraj Campaign proposed an unique solution to improved the education system of Bihar by removing the liquor ban and using the resulting tax revenue.

While interacting with the educationists at the “Shiksha Samwad event held in Gyan Bhawan in Patna,  Prashant Kishor said  the need of significant capital investment in the state’s education sector.

“As per the estimate, an addition of Rs 5 lakh crore would be required to transform the education system of Bihar apart from Rs 50000 crore that Bihar government is currently allocating for education annually,” Kishor said.

To generate this substantial capital, he suggested the lift of liquor ban, proposing that the tax revenue from liquor sales be securitized over the next 20 years.

He further said the revenue would not be used in the regular state budget but specifically earmarked for establishing a strong education system in Bihar.

“If liquor ban were to be lifted, the revenue generated from liquor should be strictly allocated to improving the education system. This money should not be diverted to security for political leaders, helicopters or other not-essential expenditures. It should be dedicated to the education of the Bihar’s children,” he said.
