Prashant Kishor raises questions on EC’s voter list revision ahead of Bihar elections.

Patna, June 27, 2025: Reacting to the Election Commission’s (EC) new announcement on voter list revision in Bihar, Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor expressed concerns over transparency and fairness, warning that the process must be conducted with public confidence and clarity.
Prashant Kishor stated: “Questions have been raised on the voter list since the Maharashtra elections, and the EC has not provided a clear answer till now.”
He emphasized that any changes in voter list rules just months before the Bihar Assembly elections should be implemented only after taking the public and all stakeholders into confidence, providing assurances of transparency, fairness, and accuracy.
Prashant Kishor expressed concerns over EC’s credibility:
Prashant Kishor noted that due to the questions raised on the EC’s functioning after the Maharashtra elections, it is natural for doubts and fear to arise among the public.
“There is a perception that under pressure from those in power, the EC may remove names of voters perceived as non-BJP supporters from the electoral rolls,” Kishor said.

Demands for transparency:
Prashant Kishor called on the EC to publicly clarify the exact process for voter list amendments, the criteria for addition and deletion of names and the basis on which decisions will be made to ensure there is no bias.
The Election Commission has announced a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar ahead of the 2025 assembly elections, triggering concerns among the opposition and civil society over the timing of the revision, the complex documentation requirements, the potential disenfranchisement of poor and marginalized voters.
Prashant Kishor’s remarks add to the chorus of Tejashwi Yadav, Congress leaders Pawan Khera, and the left parties who have flagged the voter list revision as a potentially anti-poor and anti-democratic exercise.
