Patna, May 23, 2024: A video of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani celebrating inside a helicopter went viral on Thursday, triggering political reactions across Bihar.
The video shows Mukesh Sahani surprising Tejashwi Yadav with a cake onboard the helicopter after the completion of their 200th election campaign in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. Both leaders cut the cake mid-air, celebrating what they called the “victory of the INDIA bloc.”
Tejashwi Yadav earlier posted videos on social media:
Tejashwi Yadav uploaded the video on his official X handle, adding to a series of previous viral clips showing the duo sharing meals of fish and oranges during their campaign travels.
In the latest video, Tejashwi can be heard asking Sahani where he got the idea of celebrating mid-air. Sahani responds jokingly, saying, “I did this to annoy our opponents. The friendship and brotherhood between us is not only troubling the opposition parties in Bihar but across the country.”
The RJD and VIP leaders have been among the most visible campaigners for the Grand Alliance (INDIA bloc) throughout the election season in Bihar.
Ruling parties criticized Tejashwi and Mukesh Sahani:
However, the ruling NDA was quick to take jibes at their celebration. JD-U state president Umesh Kushwaha dismissed the gesture, saying, “They can celebrate however they want, but they will score zero in this selection. The people of Bihar have already rejected the Grand Alliance after five phases of polling.”
JD-U minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary echoed similar sentiments, remarking that the people’s verdict would reflect in favour of the NDA.
“They can cut cake in a helicopter or make any statement—it makes no difference. The public knows their past record and is responding through votes. The NDA candidates are getting strong support on all seats,” he said.
Adding a sharp jibe, former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi linked the celebration to alleged corruption, saying, “The cake was brought from the money of bribes received in the land-for-jobs scam.”
The video has added another flashpoint in Bihar’s already heated campaign trail, with both alliances trading barbs ahead of the next phase of polling.
