Patna, September 26, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, transferring Rs 10,000 each to 75 lakh women across Bihar, and used the occasion to deliver a sharp political attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), recalling what he called the state’s dare of misrule.
Joining the event virtually from New Delhi, PM Narendra Modi was accompanied in Patna by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and senior officials.
Under the scheme, announced earlier by CM Nitish Kumar, each beneficiary receives Rs 10,000 in the first phase to start self-employment activities with the possibility of up to Rs 2 lakh in future financial support.
PM Narendra Modi attacked the lantern era of the RJD:
In a combative speech, PM Modi urged voters to remember the days of the lantern rule, a reference to the RJD’s governance between 1990 to 2005.
“When the RJD was in power, Bihar suffered an atmosphere of anarchy, corruption and fear. Our mothers and sisters suffered the most,” he said.
PM Narendra Modi recounted how broken roads, missing bridges and frequent floods once made even basic healthcare inaccessible, especially for pregnant women.

“Today, Bihar’s daughters feel free to leave their homes. No home is unsafe now. Law and order have returned under Nitish Kumar’s leadership,” he said.
The Prime Minister said a special exhibition has been set up showcasing old newspaper clippings from the dark era, urging the young women under 30 to visit and learn about their parents’ struggle.
“We will never let Bihar slip back into darkness. Development and good governance are the only way forward, PM Modi said.
PM Narendra Modi highlighted a women-centric development push:
He praised Bihar’s effort to empower women, highlighting the Jan Dhan Yojana, which enabled the direct transfer of funds.
“If we had not opened over 30 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts, could we have sent Rs 10,000 to 75 lakh sisters in one click today?” he asked, recalling a past era when only 15 paisa of every rupee reached the people.
He linked the new scheme to national campaigns such as Lakhpati Didi, Mudra Yojana, Drone Didi, Ujjwala Yojana, which he said are transforming rural women’s lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described himself and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as two brothers working for the prosperity of Bihar’s sisters.
PM Narendra Modi invoked the ongoing Navratri festival to seek the blessings of women and position the NDA government as a champion of women’s empowerment.
“A brother will find happiness only when his sister is happy. In Bihar, your two brothers Narendra and Nitish are working for your prosperity,” PM Modi said.
When a sister becomes self-employed, her dreams take new wings and her respect in society rises,” he said, adding that over 2 crore women have already become Lakhpati Didis across India.
Nitish Kumar’s remarks:
CM Nitish Kumar thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the scheme and highlighted Bihar’s progress since 2005.

“Before 2005, there was no development. We gave 50% reservation to women in Panchaiti Raj and created over 11 lakh Self-Help-Groups wherein over 1 crore Jivika Didis are associated with,” he said, contrasting his government’s record with previous regimes.
