Ahmedabad, August 25, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced that his government will undertake major reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) before Diwali this year, promising relief for businesses and ordinary citizens alike.
Addressing a public gathering in Ahmedabad, Modi said, “This Diwali, whether it is the business class or the rest of the people, everyone will get a double bonus of happiness. My government will never allow any harm to come to small entrepreneurs, farmers, or cattle rearers. Their interest is paramount for Modi.”
PM Narendra Modi’s focus on the urban poor and housing:
PM Narendra Modi highlighted the government’s efforts to provide dignified housing for the urban poor, citing Gujarat’s slum redevelopment initiatives.

“The new houses of the poor have become a living example. This Navratri and Diwali, families living in these homes will celebrate with greater happiness. Years ago, we started the mission to build permanent gated societies for slum dwellers, and this campaign continues,” PM Modi said.
Cultural appeal and Swadeshi push:
Linking the upcoming festive session with self-reliance, Narendra Modi urged citizens to adopt a Made in India Mantra.
“Now Navratri, Vijayadashmi, Dhanteras, Diwali…these festivals should not only be of our culture, but also festivals of self-reliance. Whatever we buy should be Swadeshi,” PM Modi said.
Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Gujarat Legacy:
PM Narendra Modi also invoked Gujarat’s cultureand historical icons.
He referred to Lord Krishna as the Sudarshan Chakradhari Mohan of Dwarka, and he hailed Mahatma Gandhi as a Chakradhari Mohan of Sabarmati.

He announced that Sabarmati Ashram is being renovated as a tribute to Bapu.
Emphasizing Gujarat’s role in India’s economy, Narendra Modi said the state would soon become a hub for semiconductors.
He added that one-third of India’s exports, including medicines, textiles, and pharma products, originate from Gujarat.
