Patna, April 23, 2024: The Karakat Lok Sabha seat in Bihar has turned into a high-voltage triangular contest with the dramatic entry of Bhojpuri cinema’s “Power Star” Pawan Singh, who filed his nomination as an independent candidate and kicked off an electrifying road show on Tuesday.
Pawan Singh’s road show has a large number of cars:
Pawan Singh, a hugely popular Bhojpuri actor-singer, arrived in a Range Rover SUV leading a 150-car convoy, drawing massive crowds as he passed through Kachwa, Gogri, Nasriganj and other areas en route to Karakat.
Enthusiastic supporters, including large numbers of youth and women, lined the roads, causing near-chaotic scenes in several places. Pawan Singh had already toured Bikranganj, Nokha, Akodigola, Dehri-on-Sone, and Rajpur before entering Aurangabad district, and will cover Barun and Nabinagar on Wednesday.
The contest, which was initially expected to be a straight fight, has now taken an unexpected twist.
Upendra Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (NDA) was earlier tipped to have an edge, hoping to consolidate Kushwaha community votes against.
Rajaram Singh of the CPI(ML), who also belongs to the Kushwaha community.
However, Pawan Singh’s candidacy threatens to split the upper-caste vote, traditionally considered a core BJP base, and potentially alter the seat’s equation.
Pawan Singh’s mother appealed to voters to support his son:
Speaking at the roadshow, Pawan Singh’s mother, Pratima Singh, emotionally appealed to voters.
“My son waited for a long time to enter politics. Today, his dream has come true. I hand over my son to the people of Karakat. Please keep him like your own son.”
Pawan Singh himself promised to prioritize local development if elected:
“My mother has said that I have become a son of Karakat. If I win, I assure you I will never let the people here suffer. Development will be my mission.”
With the Bhojpuri superstar’s star power energizing the electorate, Karakat is now set for one of the most closely watched battles in Bihar’s ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
