Patna, May 15, 2024: Bhojpuri Power star Pawan Singh on Wednesday firmly declared that he would not withdraw his candidature from the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency “at any cost,” despite pressure from senior BJP leaders.
Pawan Singh did not withdraw his nomination:
His statement came a day after Bihar minister and BJP leader Prem Kumar said that the party might take action if Singh did not withdraw his nomination.
Reacting to the remark, Pawan Singh told media people in Karakat, “I am an artist, not a criminal that the BJP will take action against me. This is India, and everyone has the right to live freely as per their wish. On the path I have chosen, there is no question of turning, says Pawan Singh will contest the election from Karakat at any cost.”
He added, “I will not withdraw my nomination. Once you move forward, you must keep progressing—there is no point in returning now.”
Later, Pawan Singh also posted on his official X (Twitter) handle, confirming that his nomination papers were accepted by the Election Commission after scrutiny on Wednesday.
Pawan Singh is an independent candidate from Karakat:
The popular Bhojpuri actor is contesting as an independent candidate from Karakat, while his mother, Pratima Singh, has also filed her nomination for the same seat as an independent. Her filing on Tuesday at the Sasaram Collectorate reportedly took place quietly.
When asked why his mother entered the fray, Pawan Singh smiled and said, “Should I tell you the reason? Can’t you guess? Every person moves thoughtfully in life—it’s part of our strategy.”
He further expressed confidence in his victory, saying, “The people of Karakat have made up their mind to make their son Pawan win.”
Pawan Singh’s presence has made the Karakat contest triangular, with Upendra Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) representing the NDA, and Rajaram Singh Kushwaha of the CPI-ML contesting as the Grand Alliance candidate.
The BJP had earlier announced Pawan Singh as its candidate from Asansol (West Bengal), but he declined the offer and later filed his nomination for Karakat on May 9. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 16, and polling in Karakat will be held in the seventh phase on June 1.
