Patna, May 22, 2024: Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh on Wednesday released a 10-point manifesto for the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency, intensifying his independent campaign after being expelled from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for “anti-party activities.”

BJP issued a letter of expulsion for Pawan Singh:

The BJP’s state headquarters, through a letter signed by party in-charge Arvind Sharma, announced Singh’s expulsion, citing that his actions had “tarnished the image of the party.” The decision was made under the direction of BJP state president Samrat Choudhary.

Pawan Singh, popularly known as the “Power star” of the Bhojpuri film industry, retaliated swiftly. Taking to social media, he likened himself to “Abhimanyu”—the mythological warrior who  fought against overwhelming odds—and asserted that “the people of Karakat are standing with this Abhimanyu”

Pawan Singh’s 10-point Manifesto:

Unveiling his election agenda, Singh promised a series of development-oriented initiatives for Karakat. His manifesto includes, creation of new employment opportunities, promotion of organic and modern agriculture through the establishment of a training centre, ensuring proper arrangements for water collection, drinking water, and irrigation.

He also promised for building a film industry hub to promote local artists and culture, making the long-closed Pali bridge operational, reviving the closed Dalmianagar factories and expanding new industries, Establishing an IT park to boost employment, organizing grand fairs on Magh Sankranti and Kartik Chhath as government-recognized festivals, beautification and renovation of the Maa Tarachandi temple, expanding rail and road connectivity to boost industrial development.

Singh’s entry has transformed Karakat into a triangular battlefield. The NDA has fielded Upendra Kushwaha, chief of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, while the Grand Alliance has nominated Rajaram Singh Kushwaha of the CPI-ML.

Pawan Singh, a native of Bhojpur district and belonging to an upper-caste community, is expected to draw a significant section of the BJP’s traditional upper-caste vote bank, potentially hurting the NDA’s chance.

Earlier, the BJP had offered him a ticket from Asansol (West Bengal), but Singh declined, expressing a preference for a Bihar seat—particularly Arrah, Karakat, or Buxar. When denied a ticket in Bihar, he decided to contest independently from Karakat.
