Patna will get a state-of-the-art Haat near Gandhi Maidan, showcasing Bihar’s art heritage.

Patna, July 10, 2025: The capital Patna is set to gain a new cultural and business landmark with the construction of a state-of-the-art Haat near Gandhi Maidan, aiming at showcasing Bihar’s rich art and craft heritage while boosting local artisans and tourism.

The modern Haat, being built in the western part of the civilization gate (Sabhyata Dwar), is coming up at a cost of Rs 48.96 crore and will be developed as a three-storey emporium with underground and surface parking facility.

According to an official, the Haat will include three-storey emporium for handicrafts and art, two restaurants, game zone for children and youth, firefighting and fire alarm systems, lift and water tank facilities, CCTV surveillance for security, solar power generation system, , street lighting and a secure boundary wall around the premises.

The Bihar State Tourism Corporation Limited is implementing the project with a target of 24 months for completion.

Patna Haat provides a platform for Bihar’s traditional arts and craft:

Designed on the lines of Mithila Haat in Madhubani, the upcoming Haat will highlight the heritage of ancient Magadh while promoting local artisans.

Art and crafts will be showcased, Madhubani painting of Mithilanchal, Manjusha art of Bhagalpur, Tikuli painting of Patna, Sikki craft of Bihar, Bamboo-cane craft of Samastipur, clay and ceramic arts of Darbhanga, leather products like shoes, belts and bags, Sujni embroidery of Muzaffarpur, stone craft of Gaya and Booti art of Nalanda.

A new cultural and business identity for Patna:

An official highlighted that this haat will not only provide local artisans with a modern platform to sell and showcase their crafts but will also add a new dimension to Patna’s cultural and business landscape by attracting tourists, art enthusiasts and buyers.

The Haat is expected to generate livelihood opportunities for artisans, preserve Bihar’s art heritage, and create a vibrant urban space for cultural activities in the heart of the city.
