Patna is facing flood threats due to the Ganga and Punpun Rivers.
Patna, August 12: Patna is facing significant flood threats as the Ganga and Punpun Rivers have been flowing above the danger level mark for the last few days.
The water level of the Ganges is above the danger level in Maner, Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat and Hathidah in Patna district. The Punpun River also reached above the danger mark in Arwal and Sripalpur in Patna district. There are signs of further increase in the water level of these two rivers making the situation alarming here.
According to the Bihar Water Resources Department, the Ganges has reached 50.68 meters surpassing the danger level of 50.45 meters at Digha Ghat in Patna. The danger level at Gandhi Ghat is 48.60 meters. The water level of the Ganges has now reached 49.42 meters. The danger level in Hathidah is 41.76 meters, while the Ganges has reached 42.40 meters. The danger level in Maner is 52 meters but the water level of the Ganges River has reached 52.02 meters.
Punpun River has been also flowing above the danger mark in the Arwal district. The authority has registered 65.02 meters which is just above the danger level.
The danger level at Sripalpur, Patna is 50.60 meters but the water level of Punpun River is currently at 51.54 meters.
The Water Resources Department officials claimed the water level of the Ganges and Punpun Rivers is increasing but all embankments are currently secure. The officers and engineers of the department are constantly monitoring the water level of these two rivers.
Earlier on Saturday, Nitin Nabin, the urban development minister of the Bihar government has cancelled the leaves of all officials and employees until September this year.
The decision was taken after waterlogging at several places in Patna on Saturday night.

The Ganges River is also above the danger level at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district. The maximum impact of the rising water level of the rivers is visible in the low-lying areas, especially in villages that come under Diara.
Apart from the Ganges, the water level of many rivers is above the danger level as well. According to the Water Resource Department of the Bihar Government, Kosi, Gandak, Parman, Bagmati and Budhi Gandak are flowing above the danger mark at many places.
The Gandak River is 28 cm above the danger mark at Dumriya Ghat in Gopalganj district.
The Burhi Gandak River is 61 cm above the danger mark in Khagaria.
The Bagmati River is 83 cm above the danger mark at Benibad in Muzaffarpur.
The Kosi River is 121 cm above the danger mark at Baltara in Khagaria. The Kosi River is 52 cm above the danger mark in Kursela, Katihar.
The Parman River in Araria is 56 cm above the danger mark.
