The rising water level of the Ganga River has caused significant damage in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district as several houses submerged in Masadhu village under Sabour block within the past 24 hours.

The district administration and water resource department officials reached the village and appealed to the people to evacuate their homes and take shelter in a nearby school.

“Due to the strong flow of water, soil erosion is rapidly occurring in Masadhu village. We have visited the place and appealed to the people to stay away from the riverbanks. The district police has deployed a team to monitor the villagers and prevent them from going towards the river banks,” said Dhananjay Kumar, SDO of Sabour.

“Due to the soil erosion, some of the houses were submerged in the river. We have appealed to the people to leave their houses which are located on the bank of Ganga River, and the villagers are cooperating with us. We have accommodated the affected people in the government school and a common kitchen also started here to provide them meals,” Kumar said.

“The situation here is alarming. Some of the houses are located right on the edge of the Ganga River and the clay underneath the houses has been eroded. Only the pillars are visible. The district administration has declared these houses dangerous. We are placing the sandbags on the bank of the river to prevent soil erosion,” the officer said.
