Gurugram, March 26, 2026: The decision by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission to keep power tariffs unchanged for the financial year 2026-27 has sparked optimism across industrial corridors of the state, particularly in Gurugram.

The revised tariff structure, effective from April 1, is expected to provide direct relief to around 8.37 million consumers, including industries that form the backbone of Haryana’s economy.

Welcoming the move, Vinod Bapna—senior member of the CII Haryana Council and CEO of Caparo Maruti—described the decision as a booster dose for industrial growth.

He emphasized that stable electricity tariffs are crucial for Grugram, a city known globally as a hub for automobile manufacturing and IT services.

No power tariff hike will provide stability to strengthen competitiveness:

Bapna noted that in an environment marked by volatile raw material prices, maintaining stable power tariffs is a significant step.

He said the decision would help keep production costs under control, thereby enhancing the global competitiveness of products manufactured in Haryana.

However, he cautioned that industries must remain mindful of variable components such as the Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA), which can fluctuate periodically and impact overall costs.

Balancing growth despite revenue pressure:

The Commission’s decision is being termed historic, especially as power distribution companies had projected a revenue deficit of approximately Rs 4,484.71 crore.

Despite this, no additional burden has been placed on consumers.

Focus on EV infrastructure and demand management:

According to Bapna, the Commission has also directed the development of EV charging infrastructure in key cities, like Faridabad and Panchkula, alongside Gurugram.

Additionally, a strong push on Demand Side Management is planned to address the significant gap—estimated between 3,000 and 5,000 MW—between peak and off-peak electricity demand.

Industry leaders believe that stable power tariffs will further enhance Haryana’s standing in the Ease of Doing Business rankings.

The move is expected to provide confidence to existing MSMEs while also attracting new investments, startups, and manufacturing units to the state.
