Nitish Kumar welcomes Union Budget 2026-27, calls it progressive and forward-looking.

Patna, February 1, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha, describing it as positive, progressive, and aligned with the vision of a developed India.

Sharing his reaction on his official X handle, Nitish Kumar said the budget reflects the Centre’s commitment to accelerating the country’s overall development.

The Union Budget is positive and welcome. It keeps in mind the goals of building a developed India. This budget is progressive and forward-looking, and through it, the central government has taken several important steps to speed up the nation’s development,” Nitish Kumar said.

Highlighting key infrastructure announcements, Kumar said the proposal to construct seven high-speed rail corridors across the country would significantly benefit Bihar, particularly the Varanasi-Siliguri high-speed rail corridor.

He also welcomed the announcement of 20 new waterways, under which ship-repairing facilities will be developed in Patna and Varanasi.

“The expansion of waterways will benefit several cities in Bihar, facilitate exports of the state’s products, and boost trade and commercial activities,” he said.

Nitish Kumar further noted that the budget’s proposals for setting up large textile parks, launching the Mahatma Gandhi Self-Employment Scheme, and providing Rs 40,000 crore support to the semiconductor industry would generate employment opportunities for youth across the country, including Bihar.

Nitish Kumar appreciated Purvoday States’ initiative:

Nitish Kumar said the special focus on Purvoday states and the North-eastern region would help accelerate development and job creation in Bihar.

These development schemes will bring industrial investment, infrastructure growth, and increased employment opportunities for the youth of Bihar,” he said.

He also welcomed the budgetary provisions for urban development, stating that they would give a fresh boost to urbanization in Bihar by expanding infrastructure, investment, and employment in cities.

Appreciating the social sector initiative, Nitish Kumar said the announcement to construct a girls’ hostel in every district would significantly support girls in pursuing higher education.
