Patna, September 22, 2025: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hailed the GST reform as a visionary decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it will boost the economy, reduce prices of essential items, and ease the financial burden on lower and middle-class families.
On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, the country adopted a simplified Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure, with only two main slabs—5% and 18%–coming into effect.
The Central government described the move as a major step toward transparency and ease of doing business, promising direct benefits to the common people.
Reform will boost economy and ease of business, says Nitish Kumar:
The decision is a result of Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership. It will accelerate the country’s economy and bring relief to the common citizen. Every item will now be cheaper, benefiting the people of Bihar and the entire country,” Nitish Kumar said in a post uploaded on the social media platform X.

Nitish Kumar added that a simpler two-slab GST will make doing business easier and increase the country’s GDP, while providing relief for essential goods. This reform will lay the foundation for a strong and prosperous India,” he said, thanking the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Bihar.
BJP leaders also appreciated the new GST slabs:
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced a state-wide campaign to meet shopkeepers and ensure that the reduced GST rates are correctly implemented at the retail level.
“The GST celebrations begin today under the leadership of PM Modi. We will meet shopkeepers to verify that goods are being sold at the new rates,” Choudhary said.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai echoed the sentiment, noting that the rate cuts will provide immediate price relief on daily-use items.
Experts believe that the reform, by reducing compliance burdens and encouraging investment, will give a significant push to economic growth ahead of the festive season.
