Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of on-grid power projects costing Rs.139 crore to benefit villagers in VTR.
Patna December 23, 2024: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar begins his Pragati Yatra from Valmikinagar in West Champaran district on Monday.
This Yatra will mark yet another step in his mission for development in Bihar. During the visit, several initiatives like infrastructure, electrification, and community development have been launched by him.
Nitish Kumar lays the foundation for the electrification in the village falls under The Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve Area.
Bihar government will invest Rs.139 crore to provide on-grid electricity to 70,000 residents in and around 22 villages in the Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve (VTR) which has lacked power since independence.
For the first time in Bihar, underground cables will supply electricity across 22 villages in dense forest areas, ensuring minimal ecological disturbance within a time frame of 18 months. Overall, Nitish Kumar laid the foundation of various projects worth Rs 700 crore.
Nitish Kumar’s engagement with tribal communities:
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was warmly welcomed by tribal women with flower showers in Hothwa tola.
He inspected the initiatives of local villagers, including Jeevika Didi groups and handloom stalls and appreciated their contributions to economic empowerment.
Nitish Kumar also participated in a baby shower ceremony at an Anganwadi center, emphasizing maternal and child welfare.
He inspected a Health and Wellness Center to ensure better healthcare delivery.
Nitish Kumar planted saplings in Tharuhat Park, promoting the Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission, aimed at water conservation, green cover enhancement, and environmental awareness.
During the occasion, JDU MP Sunil Kumar announced plans for Valmikinagar to become a new revenue district, addressing long-standing local aspirations.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has a legacy of organizing development yatras, starting with the Nyay Yatra in 2005. These visits underline his governance model of direct community engagement and grassroots development.
The Pragati Yatra not only enhances infrastructure and connectivity in rural and tribal areas but also strengthens environmental conservation efforts and local governance. His Yatra exemplifies a balanced approach to development, combining technology, welfare programs, and ecological sensitivity.
As per the schedule of Pragati Yatra’s first phase, Nitish Kumar will visit West Champaran on December 23, After staying overnight in Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve, will go to East Champaran on December 25, there is no program on that day. He will visit Sheohar and Sitamarhi on December 26, he will visit Muzaffarpur on December 27 and on 28 December, he will visit Vaishali and then return to Patna.
