Patna, October 26, 2025: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched a blistering attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal and its chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, accusing the governments between 1990 to 2005 of turning Bihar into a state of crime and corruption, and anarchy.

Nitish Kumar uploaded a post on social media to target the RJD:

In a post on X, Nitish Kumar said that before 2005, people in Bihar lived under constant fear and lawlessness.

“You all remember the period before 2005, when crime and corruption were at their peak in Bihar. There was an atmosphere of anarchy everywhere. People couldn’t go out after 6 PM. Our sisters and daughters were not safe,” he wrote.

The Chief Minister alleged that crime had become an industry during that period.

“Even with money, nobody wanted to build a new house. Industries had shut down due to the criminals in the state. Doctors and engineers were migrating. The entire system had collapsed. Crime was directly patronized by those in power, and the administration was completely paralyzed,” he said.

Nitish Kumar said that being called a Bihari was once a matter of shame, but since his government came to power in November 2005, it has become a matter of pride.

“When our government was formed in 2005, we made law and order our top priority and established the rule of law. A zero-tolerance policy was adopted for crime and corruption. Today, there is no atmosphere of fear in the state. There is peace, love and brotherhood,” he asserted.

Nitish Kumar highlighted police and women’s empowerment:

Highlighting his government’s initiatives, Nitish Kumar said that before 2005, Bihar had 817 police stations, which have now increased to over 1380, all equipped with modern infrastructure. The number of police vehicles and weapons was also significantly increased, and new recruitment drives were undertaken.

Nitish Kumar said that when his government took charge, there were only 42,481 police personnel in the state

“Now, the number has risen to over 1.25 lakh, and the government has created over 2.29 lakh new posts. Recruitment is being carried out rapidly to strengthen the force,” he stated.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure women’s safety and empowerment.

Since 2013, women have been given a 35% reservation in the police force. The Tribal Women’s Self-Respect Battalion has been formed. The participation of women in the Bihar police is now the highest in the country,” he claimed.

To improve policing efficiency, Nitish Kumar said that the state constable recruitment board was constituted in 2008, followed by the Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission in 2017 to expedite recruitment.

Forensic Science Laboratories were established to ensure scientific investigation, and law and order functions were separated from investigation at the police station level for the speedy disposal of cases.

Concluding his post, Nitish Kumar said the people of Bihar had made a historic decision in 2005 to reject misgovernance and embrace development.

“That year was the turning point for Bihar. Today, the state is progressing with justice. The youths are getting jobs, women are being empowered, and industries are growing. The new Bihar stands for prosperity and good governance. Being called a Bihari is now a matter of pride, not shame. The people of Bihar will never return to that era of anarchy,” he said.
