Patna, February 16, 2026: After a brilliant batting performance by Indian opener Ishan Kishan, which led India to a resounding victory against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, congratulated the cricketer for his dominant knock.
The high-voltage India-Pakistan match was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Ishan Kishan played a blinder against Pakistan:
A native of Patna, Ishan Kishan played a sensational innings of 77 runs off 40 balls on a slow and challenging wicket, laying a strong foundation for India’s emphatic win.
Following the victory, Nitish Kumar took to social media to praise the young opener. In his post Chief Minister wrote:

Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the Indian cricket team on their victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan.
Playing for the Indian cricket team in this match, Ishan Kishan from Bihar played a key role in India’s victory by scoring 77 runs in 40 balls with a brilliant performance, for which hearty congratulations and best wishes to him. Wishing Ishan Kishan a bright future.
The entire country is happy and proud of this victory. My infinite best wishes to all the players of the Indian cricket team.”
India defeated Pakistan 8 times in the World Cup match:
India defeated Pakistan for a record eight times in the history of the T20 World Cup, registering a commanding 61-run victory in Colombo.
After winning the toss, Pakistan invited India to bat first. India posted 175 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
In response, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs, unable to withstand the disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Indian bowlers delivered a collective performance, with Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy picking up two wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav and Tilak Varma also contributed with the ball.
With this convincing win, India qualified for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026, strengthening their campaign in the tournament.
