Patna, December 9, 2025: The cabinet of the Nitish Kumar government has approved a 5 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners under the sixth central pay scale.
The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting held in Patna on Tuesday.
This was the second cabinet meeting since the formation of the new NDA government in the state.
With this revision, the DA will now be paid at 257 percent, up from 252 percent, effective from July 1, 2025.
The Finance Department’s proposal on this matter received cabinet approval.
The cabinet has approved a compassionate appointment for Mohammad Imdad Raza, son of the late BSF Sub-inspector Mohammad Imtiaz, who was martyred during Operation Sindoor.
Additionally, Gayaji and Munger districts have been declared Civil Defence districts, with the creation of 14 new posts for Civil Defence units.
The Directorate of Technical Development under the Industries Department has been renamed the Directorate of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

The NDA government reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its election promise of providing 1 crore (10 million) jobs and employment opportunities to youth over the next five years.
As part of this initiative, the cabinet approved the creation of three new departments to streamline governance and boost employment-related activities.
In addition to the existing 45 departments, the government has created the Youth, Employment and Skill Development Department for comprehensive youth development and expanding employment and skill-building opportunities.
The Higher Education Department was formed by separating higher education functions from the current Education Department to enhance the quality of higher education.
The Civil Aviation Department has also been formed by separating the Civil Aviation Directorate from the Cabinet Secretariat Department to boost aviation infrastructure and improve air connectivity.
Renaming of key departments:
To align departmental names with their expanding roles, the cabinet also approved renaming the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department to the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department, the Labour Resources Department to Labour Resources and Migrant Worker Welfare Department and the Arts, Culture and Youth Department to the Arts and Culture Department.
Arvind Kumar Choudhary, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat, said that the creation of new departments was necessary due to the increasing responsibilities of the state government.
He added that the restructuring will help deliver services more effectively and accelerate youth-oriented development programs.
