Patna, July 15, 2025: In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Bihar government on Tuesday approved Rs. 51 crore 68 lakh for the special voter list revision exercise ahead of the assembly elections.
The funds will pay honorarium to 77,895 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 8,245 BLO supervisors, each receiving Rs 6,000 for the revision work.
The voter list revision has become a flashpoint in Bihar politics, with the opposition alleging it is a backdoor for NRC implementation and could deprive the poor of voting rights.
The Election Commission has clarified it is aimed at improving the accuracy of the voter list, even as petitions are pending in the Supreme Court.
Nitish Kumar’s cabinet cleared the 1 crore jobs proposals:
The cabinet also approved the proposal to provide one crore jobs and employment opportunities in Bihar during 2025-2030.
A high-level 12-member committee under the Development Commissioner has been constituted to explore job options and advise the government on implementation.
No clarity on government jobs:
However, the Nitish Kumar government has not clarified how many of these one crore opportunities will be government jobs and how many will be categorized as ‘employment’ in the order sectors.
Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat) s. Siddharth, when asked by the media, said there is no specific information available on the job-employment breakup yet.
The decision comes as the Nitish Kumar government faces opposition pressure on unemployment ahead of elections.
The move aims to address youth aspirants, but details on execution, timelines, and the nature of employment are awaited.
