Patna, January 13, 2026: The Bihar cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday approved 41 proposals during its first cabinet meeting of the new year 2026.
The meeting was held at the central Hall of the Cabinet Secretariat in Patna.
All cabinet ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhsry and Vijay Kumar Sinha, were present at the meeting.
The cabinet meeting was significant in several respects, as it focused on fulfilling the commitments made by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA to the people of Bihar during the 2025 Assembly elections.
Nitish Kumar government’s focus on jobs, investment, and development:
Following the formation of the new government, the Nitish Kumar administration is preparing a special action plan for jobs and employment.
The cabinet emphasized filling long-pending vacancies across government departments while simultaneously encouraging private sector investment to generate large-scale employment opportunities in the state.
Several decisions were taken to accelerate development schemes and strengthen infrastructure across the sector.
The cabinet approved a new scheme worth Rs 33.29 crore for the construction of a 220 KV DC transmission line to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply to the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC), Gaya Ji, under the Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited.
Approval was granted for the reorganization and creation of 694 posts in the Agriculture Department. This includes 534 posts of Plant Protection Supervisor and 160 posts of Plant Protection Inspector.
These posts will be created by surrendering and repatriating 293 existing sanctioned posts under various designations and creating an equal number of new posts under the Bihar Agriculture Subordinating Service (category-05—Plant protection) cadre.
The new cadre will consist of 194 Plant Protection Supervisors and 99 Plant Protection Inspectors.
The cabinet approved the temporary creation of one ex-cadre post of Forest and Environment Advisor for a period of three years.
The post will be filled on a contractual basis by a retired officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS) or the Bihar Forest Service, aimed at expediting forest and environment-related clearances and ensuring the timely implementation of departmental projects.
Approval was also granted for the identification and reorganization of 200 sanctioned posts in the office attendant cadre under the Directorate of Fisheries, which functions under the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department.
The cabinet approved the “Bihar Anand Karaj Marriage registration Rules, 2025,” enabling the registration of marriages solemnized in the Anand Karaj tradition in the state under the Anand Marriage Act 1909.
The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 314.20 crore for the construction of Bihar Bhawan in Mumbai, aimed at providing accommodation and facilities for people from Bihar visiting the financial capital.
Strengthening governance and infrastructure:
Officials said the decisions taken reflect the government’s commitment to employment generation, administrative reforms, infrastructure development, and social inclusion.
The Nitish Kumar cabinet approvals are expected to accelerate development projects and strengthen governance across key departments in the state.
