Nitish Kumar cabinet approves 36 proposals: Major boost for education, health, and transport.

Patna, August 5, 2025: In a significant move ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the Nitish Kumar-led government approved 36 major proposals during a cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, focused on education, health, transport, electoral preparedness, and rural development, with several populist measures aimed at improving welfare schemes and administrative efficiency.

The Nitish Kumar government enhanced support for teachers and students:

The cabinet approved multiple reforms to strengthen school infrastructure and incentives, including physical education teacher’s honorarium has been doubled from Rs 8,000 to Rs 16,000, Cooks and night watchmen employed in schools will receive increased honorariums.

Approval of the Bihar State School Teacher Appointment Transfer Service Manual standardizes recruitment and transfers.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for girls students (Classes 7—12) under the Kishori Swasthya Karyakram Yojana, based on 75% attendance between April 1 and July 31, 2025.

DBT for both male and female students (Classes 9-10) under the Balika/Balak Chhatravriti Yojana (General Category including minorities), also linked to 75% attendance during the same period.

In the health sector, the financial incentives for frontline workers like ASHA workers and ASHA facilitators under the National Health Mission will now receive an increased monthly fixed remuneration of Rs 3,000, up from Rs 1,000.

MAMTA workers, who assist during childbirth, will now receive Rs 600 per delivery, a 100% increase from the earlier Rs 300. In the transport sector, an approval for the operation of 200 inter-state buses (AC and non-AC, 44-seaters) under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The Nitish Kumar government also approved funds for 100% polling booth surveillance:

To ensure transparency and prevent malpractice in the upcoming Assembly elections, an approval of Rs. 154.3 crore for installing 2 cameras per polling booth across 90,712 polling stations in Bihar to ensure 100% webcasting of polling, surveillance at check posts and counting centres.

In a mega development push, the Nitish Kumar government has given approval for land acquisition for 524.95 acres across Harnaut and Chandi blocks in Nalanda district.

The total acquisition cost is Rs. 264.65 crore, to be managed through the Basic Infrastructure Development Authority, Patna.

The flurry of approvals is seen as a strategic pre-election move by the Nitish Kumar government.
