Nitish Kumar awarded Rs. 10 lakh each to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.

Patna December 1, 2024: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, staying true to his earlier announcement, honored the Indian Women’s Hockey Team after their historic victory against China in the Women’s Asian Hockey Championship Trophy on November 20 in Rajgir.

In a grand event at Bapu Auditorium in Patna on Sunday, all players and the head coach were awarded Rs.10 lakh each, while supporting staff received Rs.5 lakh each.

The event highlighted Bihar’s appreciation for excellence in sports, with even the tournament organizer receiving recognition.

The program also featured a 4-minute short film celebrating the tournament, adding a cinematic touch to the ceremony.

Nitish Kumar’s acknowledgment of the team’s victory is a testament to the importance of sports in building morale and promoting state-level support for national achievements.

Salima Tete, captain of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, expressed her delight over the organization of such a prestigious championship for the first time in Bihar.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has personally encouraged the Indian Women’s Hockey Team. I am thankful to him. I also thank on behalf of my team to the Bihar government for the generous recognition of their efforts. It is a momentous occasion for us,” Tete said.

The Asian Women’s Hockey Championship, hosted from November 11 to 20, 2024, at the State Sports Academy and Bihar Sports-University-cum-State Sports Complex in Rajgir, brought together teams from six nations: India, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand.

India’s historic 1-0 victory over China in the final not only earned national pride but also marked Bihar’s successful hosting of an international event of this magnitude.
