Nitish Kumar announces candidacy for Rajya Sabha.

Patna, March 5, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that he will contest the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Sharing the information on Instagram, he conveyed a message of gratitude and commitment to the people of the state.

Nitish Kumar reveals his decision on social media:

In his post, Nitish Kumar wrote that for over two decades, the people of Bihar have consistently reposed trust in him, enabling him to serve the state with complete loyalty. He credited public support for Bihar’s developmental progress and growing stature.

“Since the beginning of my parliamentary career, I have had a desire to become a member of both the House of the Bihar Legislature and Parliament. In this, I am seeking to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in this election,” he stated.

He further assured citizens that his relationship with them would continue in the future and reaffirmed his commitment to building a developed Bihar. He also said that the new government to be formed would have his full support and guidance.

Party workers gather in support:

Soon after the announcement, workers of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U) began gathering outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna. The area echoed with slogans of “Nitish Kumar Zindabad” and “We accept no one but Nitish.”

 Several supporters expressed the view that the public mandate was for Nitish Kumar to continue as Chief Minister rather than move to the Rajya Sabha.

The announcement has triggered fresh political discussions in Bihar, as it may signal a significant shift in the state’s leadership dynamics ahead of the upcoming political developments.
