Patna, August 4, 2025: Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, on Monday, formally announced the implementation of a domicile policy for government teacher recruitment in the state, aimed at giving priority to Bihar residents.

The policy will come into effect from the Teachers Recruitment Examination (TRE)-4 scheduled in 2025.

In a social media post, Nitish Kumar stated that his government, since its formation in November 2005, has continuously worked to improve the state’s education system.

He highlighted that a large number of teachers have already been appointed over the years and that the new policy marks the next step in prioritizing local youth.

“The Education Department has been directed to amend relevant recruitment rules to give preference to domicile holders of Bihar,” Kumar said.

“TRE-4 will be held in 2025 and TRE-5 in 2026. The State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) will be conducted before TRE-5,” he said.

Nitish Kumar gets the political support from his own party:

The announcement drew strong support from JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar, who hailed the move as a historic decision in the interest of the youth.

“RJD should take note. They made a person from Haryana a Rajya Sabha MP and gave a Lok Sabha ticket to a candidate from Singapore. Bihar’s youths must come first,” Neeraj Kumar said, targeting the opposition.

String of welfare measures announced:

Along with the domicile policy, Nitish Kumar’s government has unveiled a series of populist welfare measures, including ASHA workers who will receive a monthly incentive of Rs 3000, up from Rs 1000. Mamta workers will be paid Rs 600 per delivery, compared to the previous Rs 300.

The journalist pension scheme under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana has increased from Rs 6000 to Rs 15000.

Social security pension for the disabled, elderly and widows has been raised from Rs 400 to Rs 1100.

All eligible households will now receive 125 units of free electricity, and the state government has also pledged to create 1 crore jobs over the next five years.
