Monsoon session 2nd day: Uproar over voter list revision in Bihar Assembly.

Patna, July 22, 2025: The second day of the monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Tuesday witnessed intense chaos as opposition MLAs wearing black cloths staged protests inside and outside the House over the voter list revision ahead of the assembly elections.
Ruckus inside the House during the monsoon session:
As soon as Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav began proceedings, opposition MLAs stood up, shouting slogans, and moved to the House carrying placards demanding a debate on the SIR.
The Speaker tried to pacify them, saying, “Your throats will get tired of shouting slogans. You will need it during elections, save your energy and take your seats.”
When the opposition MLAs did not relent, the Speaker ordered marshals to confiscate the placards, which were promptly removed from the well.
Chaos outside the House during the monsoon session, Speaker’s entry blocked:
Before the session, RJD, Congress and left MLAs blocked the main entrance to the Assembly, raising slogans against the government and attempting to prevent Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav from entering the House.
In the chaos, the Speaker narrowly escaped falling as security personnel escorted him inside.

The opposition also blocked the ruling parties’ MLAs from entering through the main gate, forcing the administration to open the second gate of the Assembly.
Despite resistance, ruling MLAs and ministers entered through the alternate gate, while CM Nitish Kumar arrived via another route and met the Speaker along with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Cabinet Minister Shrawan Kumar.
Political context:
The protest during the monsoon session aligns with the Grand Alliance’s pre-announced strategy led by Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, demanding a discussion in the House on the voter list revision, which the opposition claims is a conspiracy between the BJP and the Election Commission to disenfranchise voters ahead of the elections.

Politics in Bihar has been heated for over a month on the SIR issue, and the opposition is determined to press the government during the five-day monsoon session, which is the last before the state election.
