Patna, June 19, 2024: Amid the raging controversy over the NEET question paper leak case, the mark sheets of four arrested candidates from Bihar have surfaced—and the data indicates sharp irregularities in subject-wise performance.
Two of the four candidates scored disproportionately high in one or two subjects while performing extremely poorly in others—suggesting selective access to the leaked material, investigators say.
Investigators are surprised by the low and high marks obtained by alleged NEET candidates:
One of the arrested candidates, Anurag Yadav (son of the brother-in-law of alleged kingpin Sikandar Yadavendu), scored 85.52 percentile in Physics and 51.04 percentile in Biology—but only 5.04 percentile in Chemistry.
His total marks add up to 185. Investigators point out that this lopsided jump in performance suggests that Anurag either did not receive, or could not memories, the Chemistry paper.
Yadavendu, a junior engineer in the Danapur Municipal Council and suspected mastermind of the racket, has already been arrested by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU).
Similarly, another arrested candidate, Ayush Raj, scored 87.80th percentile in Biology but only 15.52th percentile in Physics and 15.36th percentile in Chemistry. His centre was DAV School, Board Colony, and Patna.
In contrast, Abhishek Kumar, whose centre was KD Convent School in Patna, scored consistently high across subjects—96.40 percentile in Physics, 95.99 in Chemistry and 95.56 in Biology—the best among the four.
The fourth arrested candidate, Shivanandan Kumar of Gaya, scored 483 marks. His centre was International College, Patliputra. He secured 90.27 percentile in Biology, 89.75 in Physics and 86.02 in Chemistry—again, relatively balanced.
The NEET exam was conducted on May 5:
The NEET exam was conducted nationwide on May 5. According to the EOU, the question paper was accessed and leaked on May 4. Investigators say they recovered the roll codes of 13 candidates linked to the racket—four have now been arrested, and their detailed mark sheets are the ones now in public circulation.
