
Manan Mishra will be the candidate of the BJP for Rajya Sabha.
Patna, August 20: Manan Mishra will contest the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from Bihar, an official of the BJP Bihar Unit said.
The decision was taken in a high-level meeting of the BJP central leadership in New Delhi where the name of Manan Mishra was finalized for the Rajya Sabha election on Tuesday.
Sanjay Mayukh, the MLC and chief spokesperson of the party shared the list of candidates selected to contest the Rajya Sabha election.
A letter was issued from the office of Arun Singh, the national general secretary and in charge of BJP headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday.
Apart from Manan Kumar Mishra, the party has selected Mission Ranjan Das and Rameshwar Teli from Assam, Kiran Choudhary from Haryana, George Kurian from Madhya Pradesh, Dhairyashil Patil from Maharashtra, Mamata Mohanta from Odisha, Sardar Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan and Rajib Bhattacharjee from Tripura for the Rajya Sabha election.
Samrat Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar also confirms the development. He has also congratulated Manan Mishra for his selection as a Rajya Sabha candidate of BJP.
Manan Mishra is a senior advocate of Patna and a native of Gopalganj district.
Samrat Choudhary, another Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal were in New Delhi for the last few days. They attended the party’s meeting to discuss the names.

Sources have said that BJP central leadership has deliberated over 35 potential candidates from Bihar including Rituraj Sinha, Prem Ranjan Patel and former Union Minister RK Singh, but finalized the name of Manan Mishra. The selection of Manan Mishra is surprising for many leaders within the BJP Bihar unit.
Mishra, an alumnus of Patna University, passed the graduation in law and began practice as an advocate in 1982. He was also a president of the bar council and associated with the BJP since early stage of his life. He is considered one of the senior and most respected lawyers of Patna High Court.
The NDA has already selected the name of Upendra Kushwaha as one of the candidates for the Rajya Sabha.
The two Rajya Sabha seats of Bihar became vacant after Misa Bharti of RJD and Vivek Thakur of BJP resigned from the posts. They were elected as Lok Sabha MPs in the recently concluded election from Patliputra and Nawada respectively.
