Patna, December 20, 2025: Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National President Lalu Prasad Yadav successfully underwent cataract and retina surgery at Centre for Sight, New Delhi, on Saturday.
The surgery was completed smoothly, and his condition is stable.

She informed that Lalu Prasad Yadav is comfortable, recovering well, and has been discharged from the hospital.
The procedure was performed under the leadership of Dr. Mahipal Singh Sachdev, Chairman and Medical Director of the Centre for Sight group of eye hospitals.
A Padma Shri Awardee, Dr Sachdev is internationally recognized for his contributions to clinical excellence, innovation, and ethical practices in ophthalmology.
According to the hospital, the combined cataract and retina procedure was completed without complications, following globally accepted medical protocols and best practices.
Sharing details, Dr. Mahipal Sachdev said, “Lalu Prasad Yadav underwent a planned cataract and retina surgery, which was completed successfully. With today’s advanced ophthalmic technologies and refined surgical techniques, such procedures are safe, precise, and minimally invasive. He has responded well to treatment and is expected to make a smooth recovery, subject to routine post-operative care and follow-ups.”
Dr. Sachdev explained that advancements in ophthalmology have transformed cataract and retinal surgeries into bladeless, painless, and highly precise procedures, using advanced imaging systems and micro-incision techniques. In most cases, including Lalu Prasad Yadav’s, the surgery is performed as a day-care procedure, eliminating the need for prolonged hospitalization.
