Patna, May 25, 2025: In a dramatic and unprecedented move, Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD) national president Lalu Prasad Yadav has expelled his elder son and Hassanpur MLA Tej Pratap Yadav from both the party and the family for a period of six years.
The decision, announced on Sunday via a statement posted on social media platform X 9formerly Twitter), comes in the wake of viral photos and videos involving Tej Pratap and a woman named Anushka Yadav.
In his post, Lalu Prasad Yadav wrote: “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behavior of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and Sanskaar. Therefore, due to the above circumstances, I remove him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years.”
He further stated that individuals are free to make their own decisions about maintaining relations with Tej Pratap, adding:
“He himself is capable of seeing the good and bad and merits and demerits of his personal life.
Whoever will have relations with him should take a decision at their own discretion. I have always been an advocate of public discipline in public life. The obedient members of the family have adopted and followed this principle.”
Lalu Prasad Yadav took disciplinary action after viral photos:
The disciplinary action reportedly follows the circulation of photos and videos on social media showing Tej Pratap Yadav with Anushka Yadav, including images of her observing Karva Chauth rituals for him. The photos, which suggest a long-standing personal relationship, drew public and political attention, and reportedly left Lalu Yadav “surprised.”
The incident added to a string of controversies surrounding Tej Pratap Yadav, who has been known for his erratic political behavior and strained relationships both within the family and party leadership.
Public family fallout:
This is the first time that Lalu Prasad Yadav has taken such stern action publicly against a family member, especially his own son.
The expulsion not only removes Tej Pratap from his political duties within the RJD but also ostracizes him from the influential Yadav family for the foreseeable future. Political analysts view this development as an effort by Lalu Prasad and the RJD leadership to draw a line between personal conduct and political responsibility, especially ahead of crucial electoral battles in Bihar.
