Lallan Singh said Muslims do not vote for Nitish Kumar despite him doing several welfare programs.

Patna November 25, 2024: Lallan Singh, representing the JD(U) as a union minister in the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, said the Muslim community does not vote for JD(U) despite Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s numerous developmental initiatives for minorities.

Lallan Singh argued that the community does not sufficiently support the JDU electorally, a sentiment he shared at a JDU workers’ conference in Muzaffarpur.

Lallan Singh’s Claims:

Singh contrasted the state of minorities under the Lalu-Rabri regime with the improvements under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

“The Madrasa teachers, who previously earned Rs.4,000 per month, now receive salaries aligned with the Seventh Pay Commission. Despite that, the minority community’s voting patterns continue to support parties that have historically neglected their development, “ Lallan Singh said.

He also acknowledged that some leaders within the party believe the minority community supports Nitish Kumar, but he rejected this view as an illusion. He urged workers to focus on addressing these dynamics instead of relying on assumed support from the community.

Mohammad Jamal’s Counterargument:

Contrary to Singh’s assertions, JD(U) minority leader Mohammad Jamal emphasized that the Muslim community strongly supports Nitish Kumar and the JDU.

“The recent Belaganj by-election. Where JD(U), managed to secure victory, as a testament to this support. The Muslim community significantly backed JD(U) in the Lok Sabha constituencies like Sitamarhi and Sheohar during previous elections,” Jamal said.

Jamal’s perspective suggests that while challenges exist in consolidating minority votes, the party enjoys considerable goodwill among Muslims due to Nitish Kumar’s developmental measures. His statement seeks to reinforce confidence in the party’s outreach and bridge any perception gaps.

Context and Implications:

The contrasting statements underline an ongoing internal debate within the JDU over its electoral strategy and its resonance with the minority community. Singh’s remarks highlight concerns over a lack of visible support. Jamal’s counterpoint showcases optimism and faith in the JDU’s appeal.

RJD criticized Lallan Singh:

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed has strongly criticized Union minister Lallan Singh’s comments on the minority community’s voting patterns, accusing the Janata Dal (United) of aligning itself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and promoting divisive ideologies on Bihar.

“This statement of Lallan Singh makes it clear that the thinking and ideas of Janata Dal (United) are in favor of BJP, and the leaders of Janata U are engaged in pleasing BJP,” Ahmed stated.
