Patna, April 20, 2024: Former JD-U national president and sitting MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on Saturday filed his nomination papers for the Munger Lok Sabha seat, where polling will be held on May 13.

Lalan Singh filed a nomination in the presence of two deputy Chief Ministers:

The nomination process for Munger began on April 18. Lalan Singh was accompanied by Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who arrived by helicopter to show their support.

After filing his papers, Singh led a march with NDA leaders and workers.

Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary expressed confidence in the NDA’s performance, saying, “The people have great faith in Modi’s guarantee. We will win all four seats in the first phase and ultimately all 40 seats of Bihar.”

Lalan Singh is contesting against RJD candidate Anita Devi:

Lalan Singh faces a key challenge from RJD candidate Anita Devi, the wife of strongman Ashok Mahto. Political analysts see this as a strategic move by Lalu Prasad Yadav, who aims to consolidate backward caste and Muslim votes, traditionally the RJD’s strong support base.

Munger’s electoral dynamics remain complex, with a significant presence of upper castes like Bhumihar and Rajput, along with a sizable population of backward castes and Muslim voters, making this a closely watched contest.
