Patna, October 16, 2025: Prominent Bhojpuri superstar and singer Khesari Lal Yadav officially joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday, accompanied by his wife Chanda Yadav.
Their party membership was formally accepted by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, marking a major celebrity addition to the Grand Alliance’s campaign ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
Speculation had been rife that Chanda Yadav would contest the elections on the RJD ticket.
However, it has now emerged that Khesari Lal Yadav himself may contest in her place.
The final decision on which the fray remains uncertain, but an RJD insider suggests Khesari could be the party’s candidate.
Khesari Lal Yadav is most likely to contest the Bihar polls:
Sources said that during the scrutiny of nomination papers, it was discovered that Chanda Yadav’s name was not listed in the Bihar voter list, as she is registered as a voter in Mumbai.
Due to this technical hurdle, the RJD reportedly decided at the last minute to field Khesari Lal Yadav instead.
He is expected to file his nomination once the party symbol is officially allotted to him.
Tejashwi’s promises and Khesari Lal Yadav’s support:
Addressing the media after Khesari Lal Yadav’s induction, Tejashwi Yadav reiterated his party’s commitment to employment generation, saying, “After November 14, when we form the government, we will bring a law within 20 days to provide a government job to one member of every household without a government employee. This is our promise, and we will fulfill it.”
Khesari Lal Yadav expressed confidence in the RJD leadership, saying, “We have been associated with our elder brother Tejashwi Yadav for a long time. Now, we will work together to bring change across Bihar. We will travel throughout the state and campaign for the Grand Alliance.”
RJD bank star power:
Khesari Lal Yadav, a native of Dhanadih village in Ekma block of Saran district, enjoys immense popularity among Bhojpuri-speaking audiences.
His entry into politics is expected to strengthen RJD’s outreach among youth and rural voters.
With the inclusion of the Bhojpuri superstar, the RJD hopes to blend entertainment charisma with electoral energy, giving a new boost to its campaign in the heartland of Bihar.
