Jitan Ram Manjhi welcomes the quota decision of the Supreme Court.

Patna August 5: Jitan Ram Manjhi, union minister of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the quota within quota for SC and ST reservations.

The statement of Jitan Ram Manjhi could create a difference within NDA as another union minister Chirag Paswan said that his party would challenge the decision of the Supreme Court and file a reconsideration petition.

While talking to the media persons at Patna airport, Jitan Ram Manjhi criticized those opposing the decision, leveling them as selfish.

“Those who are opposing the decision of the Supreme Court are selfish. How many people from Scheduled Caste are IPS, IAS and engineers? It is necessary to benefit those who are still deprived of education and jobs. The Supreme Court’s decision on quota within quota is very good. It should have been implemented 10 years ago,” Manjhi said.

“There are still many people from the Scheduled Castes who are unable to take full advantage of reservation. We believe that the people of Bhuiyan, Mushahar, Dom and Nat communities are very less educated. Their literacy rate has still not reached 8%. The Supreme Court has said about quota within quota is correct,” he said.

“Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar always said that literacy is a crucial criterion for providing facilities for deprived sections. Those at the lowest education level should receive priority,” Manjhi said.

In a point of criticism of Union Minister Chirag Paswan, Manjhi questioned whether only a few should continue to benefit from the rights meant by the scheduled castes.

“They have taken advantage of it for 76 years. The Supreme Court’s decision regarding SC ST reservation is correct and Chirag Paswan, who is opposing it, is wrong. It is time to focus on the most deprived sections of society.

Previously, Chirag Paswan who does the politics of the Dalit community in Bihar, had announced his intention to file a reconsideration petition against the Supreme Court’s decision, claiming the quota within quota is not beneficial.

On the other hand, Jitam Ram Manjhi does the politics of the Mahadalit community. The stance of these two leaders could set up a clear conflict within the NDA over the issue of SC and ST reservation reforms.
