Patna, August 19: Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Union MSME minister criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the Kolkata incident on Monday. He said that if she had any morals, she should resign from the post of Chief Minister.

Jitan Ram Manjhi expressed deep cornered following the brutal incident with a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Kolkata. He said that such an incident is shameful for any administration.

“Maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the state government. Mamata Banerjee, as a woman Chief Minister, should have responded more decisively to the situation. Instead, she reacted as an agitator rather than taking firm action against the accused,” Manjhi said while interacting with the media persons in Gaya.

“I curse the Mamata Banerjee government. Despite being a woman Chief Minister, what she did was wrong. If she has any morals, she should resign. A very unacceptable incident happened in West Bengal. She should have taken severe action but she chanted slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad” like the opposition. It was an inappropriate stance for her as she is ruling the government,” Manjhi said.

“I am thankful to the Supreme Court for taking suo motu cognizance of the incident. What kind of system is this, where women are not safe even under the rule of a woman Chief Minister? The situation is very bad,” he said.

Jitan Ram Manjhi remarked on the irony of the women not being safe under a woman Chief Minister, highlighting the severe state of affairs in West Bengal.

The Union Minister also made sarcastic remarks on the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

Additionally, Jitan Ram Manjhi addressed comments made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the reservation. He dismissed his claims that reservations might be taken away.

“Such discussions are baseless. The inclusion of marginalized community people, like me, in the union cabinet contradicts the observation of opposition leaders on reservations. However, I acknowledge the low literacy rates among certain scheduled caste and scheduled tribes communities,” Manjhi said.

Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav also raised the same question on the reservation and alleged that the central government is undermining it.

Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav were referring to the recruitment of senior officials through the Union Public Service Commission. It has issued a notification for the 45 posts of joint secretary, deputy secretary and director level and the selection will be done through lateral entry.
