Patna, August 17, 2024: Jan Suraj architect Prashant Kishor, on Saturday, announced that his organization might contest the upcoming assembly bye-poll of Belaganj and Imamganj of Gaya district.

The bye-election on these two seats would take place after the resignation of Surendra Yadav and Jitan Ram Manjhi, who stepped down from their respective seats after winning the Lok Sabha election 2024.

“If the bye-polls are held after October 2 this year, my party, Jan Suraj, will officially contest the election of Belaganj and Imamganj, and if it is held before October 2, our party leaders would select the suitable candidates within Jan Suraj, who would contest ten contest the election as independent candidates,” the Jan Suraj chief said.

At present, Jan Suraj is not a political party. It is known as a Padyatra campaign.

Prashant Kishor has already announced plans to formally launch his political party on October 2 this year.

Prashant Kishor has been conducting Padyatra across Bihar since October 2, 2022, with the aim of preparing for the 2025 assembly election.

Apart from Belaganj and Imamganj, the bye-poll will also be held in the Ramgarh assembly constituency in the Kaimur district and the Tarari assembly constituency in the Bhojpur district.

In the 2020 assembly elections, Sudhakar Singh, the former agriculture minister of the Bihar government under the RJD quota, was elected from Ramgarh. He had contested the Lok Sabha election 2024 from the Buxar constituency and defeated the BJP candidate Mithilesh Tiwari.

Similarly, Sudama Prasad, who won the Tarari assembly constituency on the CPI-ML in 2020, contested the Lok Sabha election from the Arrah constituency. He emerged victorious against Raj Kumar Singh of the BJP.
