
India in ICC T20 World Cup Final after defeating England by 68 runs
Guyana June 28: India in ICC T20 World Cup Final after defeating England in the second semi-final held at Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Friday.
Now, India will clash for the title against South Africa in Kensington Oval Barbados on Saturday.
England won the toss and invited India to bat first.
India started well opening stand of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in a rain-affected match. Virat Kohli however bowled cheaply with only 9 runs in the third over but Rohit Sharma was standing on the other end.
He kept scoring with a brisk pace and hitting fours and sixes. Rishabh Pant is also out cheaply on just 4 runs.
The Inform Rohit Sharma, earlier played a great inning against Australia finally developed a partnership with T20 specialist Surya Kumar Yadav of 73 runs for the third wicket. At that time, the runs came from both the batsmen.
Rohit Sharma scored 57 runs of just 39 deliveries hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. His strike rate was 146.15.
The pitch was having duel bounces. Some balls stayed low and batting was not easy on it.
Surya Kumar Yadav also scored a crucial knock of 47 runs in 36 runs hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Hardik Pandya played a knock of 23 runs of just 13 balls hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja scored 17 runs on 9 deliveries. He hit 2 fours while Axar Patel scored 10 of 6 balls.
India reached 171 runs with the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
In reply to the Indian total of 171, England started well with captain Jos Buttler trying to disturb the line and length of Indian fast bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh. He scored 23 runs in just 15 balls hitting four fours. Due to his attack on India’s fast bowlers, Rohit Sharma brought Axar Patel in the fourth over. Axar did not disappoint the captain and took the wicket of Jos Buttler on the first ball when he tried to hit him reverse sweep.
Rohit Sharma knew that the pitch was helping the spinners and he immediately brought Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.
Axar Patel took the wicket of Moeen Ali when he was on 8 runs and Jonny Bairstow as well. He scored a duck. Axar Patel broke the backbone of England’s inning. He took 3 wickets costing just 23 runs in 4 overs. For his splendid performance, he was selected player of the match.
Kuldeep Yadav also took the wickets of Harry Brook and Sam Curran. Harry Brook scored 25 runs in 19 balls. He took 3 wickets of 19 runs in 4 overs while Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets of 12 runs.
England finally bundled out for just 103 runs in 16.4 overs. They were looking helpless against Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav and never tried to develop partnerships in a pressure match like the semi-final.
