IIT Delhi partners with SAI and the University of Exeter for the Advanced Sports Technology Training Program.

New Delhi, February 12, 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) has partnered with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, to launch an advanced training program in Sports Technology, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics at the IIT Delhi campus.

Scheduled to be held from March 2 to March 6, 2026, the program will offer an intensive, in-person up-skilling opportunity for sports coaches, physiotherapists, fitness professionals, sports scientists, and entrepreneurs seeking to enhance their understanding of technology-driven performance assessment and athlete development.

The program emphasizes experiential learning, enabling participants to directly engage with cutting-edge sports technologies currently used in elite research and high-performance environments.

Training will focus on performance enhancement through interventions in nutrition, physiology, biomechanics, and virtual reality (VR).

IIT Delhi’s faculties and other experts will provide training:

Experts and faculty from IIT Delhi, the University of Exeter, scientists and practitioners from SAI, along with industry professionals from leading sporting academies and organizations, will deliver the training.

 The programs include foundations of Sports Technology and Sensing Nutrition, Biosensing and Inclusive Sports Technology, Sports Wearables and Neural Technologies, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in Sports, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Sports and Applied Data Science in Sports.

Participants will also engage in guided hands-on demonstrations, covering motion capture and biomechanical modeling, wireless EMG and neuromuscular assessment, wearable sensor technologies, VR-based simulation training, and machine-learning-driven sports analytics workflows.

These sessions will be led by technical partners from the industry, ensuring practical skill development that can be directly applied in professional practice.

Experts view:

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Prof. Biswarup Mukherjee, Coordinator of the Training Program from IIT Delhi, said, “This unique program is the first of its kind in the country, bringing together leading experts from IIT Delhi, the University of Exeter, and SAI.

It is designed to enable participants to move beyond theoretical understanding and develop practical insight into technology-driven approaches for sports performance assessment and enhancement.” The initiative marks a significant step towards integrating advanced analytics, AI, and Immersive technologies into India’s sports performance ecosystem.
