Haribushan Thakur Bachaul calls for population control law, warns of ‘Hindu Marginalisation’; RJD hits back over divisive agenda.

Patna, May 14, 2025: A heated political row has erupted in Bihar after BJP MLA Haribushan Thakur Bachaul demanded the implementation of a population control law, warning that Hindus could lose political representation in parts of Bihar within the next two decades.

His remarks have drawn sharp condemnation from opposition parties, particularly the Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD), which accused the BJP of election-time communal polarization.

Haribushan Thakur Bachaul warns on demographic and voting trends:

In a provocative statement, Bachaul said that if population control laws are not brought in soon, Hindus will be unable to win elections in districts like Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea, and Katihar.

Haribushan Thakur Bachaul further alleged that bogus voting occurs in the guise of increasing voter turnout, specifically citing burqa-clad individuals a remark seen as targeting Muslim voters.

“Governance is achieved through votes. If demographic trends continue, no Hindu regardless of caste will be able to become a Mukhiya, Ward Member, MLA or MP in Seemanchal and Mithilanchal regions of Bihar in 20 years,” Bachaul claimed.

Haribushan Thakur Bachaul invoked former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s slogan “Hum Do, Hamare Do” to justify his argument and pointed to electoral outcomes in Kishanganj where AIMIM won all seats, saying this reflects a consolidation of Muslim votes away from RJD.

RJD spokesperson says BJP is panicking over public anger:

RJD state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed condemned Bachaul’s comments, calling them a deliberate distraction from real issues such as unemployment, inflation, corruption, and lack of development.

“BJP leaders only remember population and religion when elections are near. The people of Bihar now want answers on governance, not divisive narratives,” Ahmed said.

He alleged that the BJP, seeing waning support, was resorting to agenda politics to polarise voters, especially in regions where it lacks strong performance on development indices.

“This panic is because people are showing faith in Tejashwi Yadav for a better future. BJP is not able to answer for 20 years of the double-engine government,” he added.

With Bihar assembly elections approaching, the political temperature is rising, and demographic rhetoric has entered center stage.

Bachaul’s remarks appear aimed at consolidating the Hindu vote, particularly in Seemanchal and Mithilanchal, while opposition parties are steering the discourse toward developmental failures and the economic hardships of the public.
