Patna, June 7, 2024: Despite the Grand Alliance falling short of the majority required to form the government at the Centre, RJD leaders believe the support their party has gained in the Lok Sabha elections will translate into significant gains in the next Bihar Assembly polls.
Issuing a statement on Friday, RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said, “The people of Bihar have given a clear message through this Lok Sabha election for the upcoming Assembly elections. They have rejected the NDA and expressed their trust in Tejashwi Yadav. The issues raised by the Leader of the Opposition received overwhelming public support.”
RJD leader claimed real issues raised by Tejashwi could help the Grand Alliance:
According to Gagan, Tejashwi Yadav’s campaign focused on core public issues such as employment, inflation, education, income, healthcare, irrigation and governance.
“In contrast,” he said, “the statements of rival leaders were limited to temples, mutton, mangalsutra, fish and buffalo, mujra and personal attacks. While Prime Minister Modi repeatedly threatened to send Tejashwi to jail, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar focused on the coming children in every speech.”
Gagan claimed that Tejashwi’s “positive politics” enabled the INDIA bloc to snatch nine seats from the NDA in Bihar and significantly reduce victory margins compared to 2019.
He cited vote-share data to argue that public support had shifted. RJD’s vote share rose from 15.68% to 22.14%, BJP’s declined from 24.05% to 20.05%, and JDU’s fell from 22.20% to 18.52%.
He also said that the Lok Sabha results had strengthened Tejashwi Yadav’s position in national politics.
“Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister JP Nadda and dozens of union ministers and chief ministers campaigned for the NDA. The Prime Minister himself held nearly 18 meetings, stayed in Patna for two nights and even hit the road for campaigning. Despite this, the NDA lost nine seats,” he said.
Tejashwi took the baton of the Grand Alliance to compete with the NDA:
“In contrast, Tejashwi Yadav led the Grand Alliance’s campaign single-handedly and delivered a strong performance. Under his leadership, the vote base and social base of RJD and the Grand Alliance have expanded significantly. Trust has increased across all sections and communities.” Gagan added.
He asserted that the Mahagathbandhan would “definitely benefit” from this momentum in the Assembly elections. “Through this Lok Sabha election, the people of Bihar have given a clear message that there is no one parallel to Tejashwi Yadav in the state,” Gagan said.
