Patna August 3: Gopalganj police arrested two drug smugglers and seized 71.14 kg Charas during a vehicle checking campaign on Saturday.
The accused have smuggled the contrabands from Nepal and were assigned to deliver it in New Delhi. The seized contrabands have approximately Rs 8 to 10 crore in the international market. This seizure is the largest by the Gopalganj police in the recent time.
“We have received an specific information about the contrabands being smuggled through this route. Hence, the district police set up a trap at Bihar-Uttar Pradesh Balthari check post and conducted thorough checks on every vehicle. Sunil Kumar, the SHO of Kuchaykote police station led the operation. During the checking, the team has intercepted a white color car having Delhi registration number (DL 3CBS 3753),” said Swarn Prabhat, SP of Gopalganj police.
Upon detailed inspection of the car, the cops discovered an underground compartment in the trunk, which containing 71.14 KG Charas. Consequently, we have arrested two individuals involved in smuggling the contrabands,” Prabhat said.
The accused, identified as Sudeep Kumar and Mandeep Kumar, are residents of East Champaran district in Bihar. They confessed that they have picked the contraband from Nepal and have assigned to deliver the drug consignment to their recipient handlers in New Delhi.

“We have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO Sadar to uncover their backward and forward links. The aim is to identify those who provided the drug consignments in Nepal and their recipient handlers in New Delhi,” Prabhat added.
