Patna, August 4, 2025: Continuous heavy rainfall has caused the Ganga River to swell above danger levels at multiple locations in Bihar, raising alarm across the state. Water levels have surged in Patna, Munger, Bhagalpur, and particularly in Buxar, where the Ganga is flowing 14 centimeters above the danger mark.

Buxar faces the brunt of the flooding of the Ganga River:

The situation in Buxar has become increasingly critical. District administration officials are on high alert after forecasts by the Central Water Commission predicted that the water level may rise up to 60 centimeters above the danger mark by August 5.

The district administration has begun the evacuation of vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and the sick, from low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Several homes in Banarpur of Chausa block have already been engulfed by floodwaters, and the Chausa-Mohania State Highway lies submerged.

Residents have started using boats to continue, as several connecting roads and village paths in the Diara region are underwater, cutting off access to dozens of settlements.

“Such a fierce form of the Ganga has not been seen in decades. It feels like the river is ready to devour everything in its path,” said Rajan Singh, a local resident.

Emergency relief and rescue operation underway:

District authorities have deployed nine rescue boats in the worst-affected areas.

“All areas of the Buxar sub-division are under strict surveillance. We are fully prepared for any emergency, and help will be dispatched within minutes—even at midnight,” assured Avinash Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Buxar.

Relief efforts are ongoing in the Jarigwan village area, where waterlogging in low-lying parts has forced authorities to provide immediate aid.

People have been advised to remain alert, especially those residing near the riverbanks. The administration has urged residents to contact local officials at 06183-223333 in case of emergencies.

This is the second time in two weeks that dozens of villages across five blocks—Chausa, Buxar, Simri, Chakki, and Brahampur—have come under threat due to the rising Ganga.

Wider Impact across Bihar.

In Patna, the water level of the Ganga River at Gandhi Ghat has crossed the danger mark and continues to rise. Similar conditions prevail in Munger and Bhagalpur, where riverbanks are already under stress.
