Patna, March 31, 2024: The Bihar unit of Congress suffered a major setback on Sunday after former state president Anil Sharma announced his resignation from the party’s primary membership, citing the induction of controversial leader Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav as the final trigger.
In a strongly worded statement, Anil Sharma said he had no hope left in Congress following Pappu Yadav’s entry.
“Due to the joining of Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav in Congress, I have resigned from the party. I cannot remain in a party that welcomes a history-sheeter facing several criminal allegations. Now, Rahul Gandhi is shaking hands with him,” Sharma declared.
Anil Sharma said he always opposed Pappu Yadav in Congress:
Sharma revealed that Pappu Yadav had long attempted to join the Congress, but his efforts were resisted when Sharma was the state president.
“When I was state president, Pappu Yadav tried several times to join, but we objected. Now, Congress leaders have invited him to the party office in Delhi, giving him membership, and are even presenting him like a star in Bihar. It is not possible for me to stay at the party,” he said.
Criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s leadership:
Anil Sharma also targeted the party’s top leadership, accusing them of double standards and weakening the organization.
“When Rahul Gandhi was the national general secretary, he brought a rule to deny posts to leaders with criminal charges. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi why Pappu Yadav has been given membership now,” Sharma asked.
He further alleged that Sonia Gandhi’s leadership has destroyed the internal constitution of the party and described the current Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge, as a remote control chief.
“Kharge has no control over the party. All decisions are taken by Rahul Gandhi,” Sharma said.
Attack on the RJD alliance:
Anil Sharma also blamed the party’s alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for its decline in the state.
“Congress has lost political ground ever since it made an alliance with the RJD. This alliance has a big setback, and the party has completely surrendered before RJD,” Sharma asserted.
Anil Sharma said he had sent his resignation to the party’s national president and would decide his future political course after consultation with supporters.
