Patna, August 1, 2024: Five people lost their lives, and three others were critically injured due to lightning strikes in Bihar’s Gaya district on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Panari village under Belaganj block in the district.
The deceased are identified as Jitendra Dangi, his wife Meena Devi, Shankar Ram, Kapil Yadav and Bali Bhagat. The injured individuals, Raju Kumar, Moti Prajapati and Mote Bhagat, were admitted to a primary health center in Belaganj and their conditions are said to be critical.
The victims were engaged in paddy farming in their agricultural field when the rain began to fall. They immediately moved inside a motor machine room. Five people of them were sitting on the floor, and three others were on the wooden bed.
When lightning struck the location, it instantly killed those on the floor and injured individuals on the bed.
Five people, unfortunately, died due to lightning strikes in Panari village. We have asked the block development officer, Subdivisional officer, SHO and medical team to reach the village. I want to appeal to the people to stay alert and adhere to the warning of the meteorological department,” said Tyagarajan SM, the district magistrate of Gaya.
