Eight police personnel were arrested for having alleged connections with sand mafias in Bihar’s Saran district.
Patna: Saran police arrested eight police personnel in connection with having alleged links with sand mafias of the district on Wednesday evening.
Dr Gaurav Mangla, SP of Saran confirms the development. He said that the alleged police personnel were deployed in Bhagwan Bazar police station and were on patrolling duty. An FIR under IPC sections of 384 and 385 registered in Bhagwan Bazar police station of the district.
“We have received an audio clip of a conversation between police personnel and sand mafias. During its analysis, it was found true in prima facie. The police personnel were deployed in PCR vans. Accordingly, we have suspended them. We have registered an FIR under relevant sections of IPC in Bhagwan Bazar police station and later on arrested them,” Mangla said.
The alleged police personnel are identified as Ajit Prasad (SI), Kiran Kumari (ASI), four constables Manoj Kumar, Sarita Kumari, Neha Kumari, and Shilpi Kumari. Besides them, two drivers Santosh Kumar and Shyam Kishore Singh.
“They were deployed on PCR vans and were allegedly involved in giving the safe passage to vehicles laden with sand in the area. They were taking illegal levy from them to pass the trucks and tractors,” Mangla said.
The district police also appealed to the common people to provide audio and video evidence of wrongdoings of police personnel on cell phone numbers 9431822989 and 9031036406.
