Patna, May 19: East Champaran police seized around Rs 50 lakh Indian and Nepalese currencies from the Indo-Nepal Raxaul border on Sunday.

Such a seizure was made during the vehicle checking campaign at a check post located at the international border. The district police have detained two persons in this connection and also seized a currency note counting machine from their possession.

“Our team was deployed at the Raxaul borders. They have seized around Rs 50 lakh Indian and Nepalese currencies from a car during the vehicle checking campaign. We have detained 2 persons in this connection. The amount may increase or decrease after the final counting,” said Kantesh Kumar Mishra, SP of East Champaran.

“It’s appeared to be Hawala trading in the preliminary investigation. The actual reasons would be ascertained after the detailed questioning of the detained persons.

Bihar police are on high alert amid the Lok Sabha election and continuously doing vehicle checking campaigns. The polling in East Champaran, West Champaran and Valmikinagar Lok Sabha constituencies will take place in the sixth phase on May 25.
