Patna, May 19, 2024:  The East Champaran Police on Sunday seized around Rs 50 lakh in Indian and Nepalese currencies during a vehicle checking drive at the Indo-Nepal border in Raxaul.

East Champaran Police recovered a currency note machine:

According to the East Champaran police, the seizure was made during routine checking at an international border check post. Officers also recovered a currency note counting machine and detained two persons in connection with the incident.

“Our team seized about Rs. 50 lakh from a car during checking at the Raxaul border. Two individuals have been detained. The exact amount may change after final counting,” said Kantesh Kumar Mishra, SP of East Champaran.

He added that preliminary investigations suggest the money could be linked to hawala transactions, though the exact source will be confirmed after further interrogation.

Police have intensified vehicle checks across border areas as part of heightened security measures during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Voting in East Champaran, West Champaran, and Valmikinagar constituencies will be held in the sixth phase on May 25.
