Delhi CM surrendered in Tihar jail after his interim bail period was over on Sunday.
New Delhi June 2: Delhi’s Chief Miniter Arvind Kejriwal surrendered in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail after his interim bail period was over on Sunday.
He was arrested in an alleged liquor policy case and the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 to campaign for the Lok Sabha election campaign.
The apex court had issued an order about interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal with conditions that he would have to surrender by going back to jail on June 2 at all costs. The court had granted interim bail for 21 days to CM Arvind Kejriwal to campaign from Delhi to Punjab in the Lok Sabha election.
Seeing the date of surrender approaching, Kejriwal, citing a health check-up, had applied to the Supreme Court to extend the period of his interim bail by seven more days. However, the apex court flatly refused to hear his plea and advised him to go to the lower court. After this, CM Kejriwal filed a petition in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court for an extension of interim bail and regular bail.
Arvind Kejriwal’s plea was heard in Rouse Avenue Court. During the hearing, the ED told the court that Arvind Kejriwal had hidden facts and made false statements on many issues including his health. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court refused to extend the period of Kejriwal’s interim bail. After this decision of the court, Arvind Kejriwal surrendered in Tihar Jail on June 2 (Sunday). The court will hear Kejriwal’s interim bail plea on June 5.
