Patna, July 19, 2025: With the water level of the Ganga River rising in Patna amid continuous heavy rains, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an inspection of the Ganga Ghats on Saturday to assess the flood preparedness.
Nitish Kumar inspected the Ghat along Marine Drive:
CM Nitish Kumar began the inspection from Digha Ghat and moved along JP Ganga Path towards Didarganj, visiting Gandhi Ghat and others.
He was accompanied by Principal Secretary to the CM Dipak Kumar, Secretary Kumar Ravi, Patna Divisional Commissioner Chandrasekhar Singh, Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma, and senior officials of the Disaster Management and Water Resources Department.
Directives by Nitish Kumar:
The Chief Minister instructed officials to remain on high alert and to implement immediate measures to prevent flooding in Patna.
Nitish Kumar emphasized round-the-clock monitoring of embankments, ensuring quick response to any signs of weakness or potential breaches.
The CM ordered preparedness to deal with every situation, urging coordination between the disaster management and water resources teams.
The water level in the Ganga has increased due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of its tributaries, including the Son River.
Continuous heavy rain in Nepal has also led to major rivers
In Bihar flowing near danger levels.
Gandhak River is near the danger mark at Dumaria Ghat, Gopalganj, and so is Kosi River at Baltara, Khagaria.
Bagmati River is near the danger mark at Sonakhan (Sitamarhi), Dubbadhar (Sheohar), Katauja and Benibad (Muzaffarpur).
The Bihar government has appealed to people in low-lying areas to remain cautious as the administration ramps up flood preparedness efforts amid increasing water levels in major rivers across the state.
