Patna, September 19, 2025: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inaugurated the newly built State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) campus in Bihta, Patna district, aimed at strengthening the state’s disaster management capabilities.

At the inauguration ceremony, held at the new headquarters in Dilwarpur, Bihta, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha, ministers, and senior officials were present.

Addressing the gathering, CM Nitish Kumar said the new complex would significantly enhance the efficiency, training, and accommodation of SDRF officials and employees.

The SDRF was established in 2010 on the lines of the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF).

Until now, a lack of infrastructure has forced SDRF personnel to depend on training facilities in other states.

The new campus is expected to bridge that gap.

Officials briefed Nitish Kumar about the facilities at the new campus:

The Bihta campus is designed as a modern disaster response training hub, with facilities, including an administrative building, barrack for 330 soldiers, residential quarters for 108 officers and 150 employees, training centre for 290 trainees, rapid disaster team facility for 30 soldiers, mess hall and residences for commandant and deputy commandant, auditorium with 500-person seating capacity, and national-level swimming pool for flood relief training.

Nitish Kumar regularly reviewed this facility in the past.

The first phase—comprising administrative, residential, and training facilities—was completed earlier this year.

The remaining works, including the auditorium and swimming pool, were initially scheduled for June 2025, but are now delayed by a few months.

Crucial role during monsoons:

SDRF teams are deployed across rivers during the monsoon season to prevent and respond to flood-related disasters.

Personnel are trained in rescue operations and play a vital role in saving lives during floods and other natural disasters.
