CM Nitish Kumar flags off 166 deluxe buses to boost transportation in Bihar.

Patna, May 16, 2025: In a major step towards enhancing public transport infrastructure, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inaugurated a fleet of 166 deluxe buses, including 20 buses exclusively for female passengers.

These women-only buses will operate in Patna and other districts, while the remaining 144 buses will serve passengers across the state.

Nitish Kumar flagged off buses from its official residence in Patna:

The flag-off ceremony took place at the Chief Minister’s official residence at 1 Anne Marg, Patna. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with Road Transport Minister Sheela Kumari, were present on the occasion.

The newly launched fleet includes both AC and non-AC buses, with upgraded features to ensure passenger comfort and safety.

Before the formal launch, CM  Kumar personally reviewed the bus facilities to ensure they meet quality standards.

According to officials, these buses will operate on inter-regional and inter-district routes, with a special emphasis on rural and semi-urban connectivity, aiming to provide affordable, inclusive, and reliable public transportation.

A senior official from the transport department stated, “This initiative is part of the state government’s commitment to making public transport accessible and inclusive, especially for rural, urban, and semi-urban areas.”

The women-only buses are being hailed as a significant move toward gender-sensitive infrastructure and female empowerment.

The Nitish Kumar government is also focusing on the road infrastructure:

In parallel with the public transport expansion, the Nitish Kumar government is investing heavily in road infrastructure.

The Rural Works Department alone is allocating Rs. 25,000 crore for road repairs in 2025. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of continuous monitoring, rapid complaint resolution, and diligent maintenance to ensure quality roadways.

The Road Construction Department also has several major ongoing infrastructure projects, underlining the government’s broader vision of improved mobility and connectivity across Bihar.
